Southern Lebanon — JUNE, 11 2026: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops completed operations to establish operational control and clear areas north of the Saluki River along the Forward Defense Line in southern Lebanon. According to the IDF, the operation was conducted to strengthen defensive positions and reduce threats to Israeli communities in the Galilee Panhandle and Metula. BEAUFORT RIDGE, Southern Lebanon — July 2026 Israel Defense Forces Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the Beaufort Ridge alongside senior Northern Command officers, where he said Israeli forces have operational control of the strategic high ground and an extensive underground tunnel network that he described as having been built over decades by Hezbollah with Iranian backing. Zamir stated that the tunnels had been used for command centers, firing positions and attacks against northern Israel. He said the Lebanese Armed Forces are obligated under the existing ceasefire agreement to remove Hezbollah fighters and infrastructure from the area, while warning that the IDF is prepared to resume offensive operations if the ceasefire is violated. During the visit, Zamir conducted an operational assessment, entered a tunnel complex beneath the ridge, and commended troops from the 36th Division and other participating units for their operations in southern Lebanon. Hathaleen was fatally shot by an Israeli settler on July 28, 2025. Hadash lawmaker Ofer Cassif and other activists attended the ceremony and confronted Israeli forces after they sought to disperse the gathering under a closed military zone order.
